You may have seen this but there’s a Frontline catalogue/supplement in stores now that lists the following about the Andy Summers Tele:
* Ferocious humbucking pickup
* Bridge pickup mounted in body
* Control plate mounted mini-toggle phase switch
* Body mounted premap on/off mini-toggle switch
* Rear mounted overdrive unit controlled by a third knob
* Soft brass bridge pieces
can’t help ya with the mod parts but that, I guess, is what distinguishes it from yer regular Tele!
For the past 15 years or so I have been trying to get Fender to build an Andy Summers Telecaster. He’s been a big influence on my playing and I’ve always wanted one.
I’ve seen Fender create some signature models that are nothing really special. The Robert Cray Strat comes to mind (a great guitar, but not really note worthy). On the other hand I own an Eric Clapton Strat and it is very different than a regular Strat, and I own three different Strats. So I have much respect for Fender and their Signature series guitars. I figured that Fender should make an Andy Summers Telecaster because it is such a unique guitar.
I had e-mailed, called and written letters to Fender every so often, but it all fell on deaf ears. Fender has always been a company that listened to the players. I’ve been a fan of Fender guitars for over 20 years. I’ve lost count of the number of Telecasters and Stratocasters that I have owned.
Now after a long silence Fender finally got together with Andy Summers and built the Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster. Thank you, Fender.
I was elated by the prospect of getting my own Andy Summers Tele until I saw the price, $10,000 ($15,000 list price). Ugh! I’ll never be able afford one. Well since I can’t buy one I figured that I’ll just build one. It will be done on the 26th of this month.
Even though I’m having my own built I’m hoping that Fender will do what they did with Buddy Waters Telecaster (which I own and love). My hope is that Fender produces a Mexican made Andy Summers Telecaster so that the rest of the world can have one. I’d be the first to order one.
